O'Hare Joint-Use Consolidated Rental Car/Parking Facility and Airport Transit System Extension

City of Chicago Aviation Department

Project Summary

As part of the O'Hare Joint Use Facility, TranSystems developed the design criteria, facilities programming concept design and construction documents for a 2,100-foot, above grade extension of the Airport Transit System (ATS) and new station for the new multimodal Transit Center at Chicago-O’Hare International Airport. The new ATS station is 430 feet long by 60 feet wide. The Joint Use Facility is a multimodal center and includes a 74,000-square-foot customer service lobby, located 42 feet above grade, for a new consolidated rental car facility and public parking structure for the airport. The project will reduce traffic congestion in the passenger terminal area, improve air quality and eliminate use of fossil fuel due to the elimination of the existing rental car busing operation.
