Alkire Road Railroad Bridge

Franklin County, OH

Project Summary

The existing stone-arch railroad bridge over Alkire Road in Franklin County, Ohio, served users well for more than 100 years. However, changes in clearance requirements and roadway capacity necessitated a replacement of the bridge. TranSystems recommended and provided professional services to replace the stone arch railroad bridge over Alkire Road with a steel deck plate girder structure. A key project goal included replacing the existing structure with a bridge that would meet current design standards in a way that would minimize disruptions to rail traffic during construction.

Project Highlights

  • Use of a temporary ACROW truss bridge to minimize rail traffic disruptions
  • Aesthetic design features include stone facing on the bridge and wing walls, landscaping and decorative lighting
