Busse Woods Pedestrian Overpass

Village of Elk Grove, IL

Project Summary

The Busse Woods Trail draws more than 2.5 million visitors a year, an attendance volume greater than Yellowstone National Park. TranSystems performed phase I preliminary engineering studies, phase II design engineering, and phase III construction engineering services for the construction of a new multi-use overpass along the Busse Woods Trail System over Illinois Route 72 (Higgins Road). The overpass replaced an existing at-grade pedestrian crossing on the east approach of Higgins Road and the I-290 East Frontage Road. This was a coordinated effort by the Village of Elk Grove Village and Forest Preserve District of Cook County to provide the regional bike path overpass for the Busse Woods Trail System.

Project Highlights
