IDOT's massive multi-phase, multi-let project takes this year's gold
The Jane Byrne (Circle) Interchange is the hub of the Chicago expressway system, linking the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-90/94), Eisenhower Expressway (I-290), Congress Parkway, and the Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94). The interchange carries significant traffic volumes and experiences breakdown conditions for many hours of the day causing substantial queuing in every direction. Today, the interchange serves more than 400,000 vehicles a day, with a total peak hour flow of nearly 24,000 vehicles per hour.
TranSystems worked on both Phase I preliminary engineering and Phase II final design for the project and has recently been awarded Phase III construction management.
