Moen contracted TranSystems to create a simulation model that would represent the planned Silver Streak production line and serve as a tool to both validate and optimize its operation of the Silver Streak. This case history describes the simulation model, which included all operations in the production line from the processing of raw stock to packaging, as well as an overhead conveyor system to transport sinks.
This paper discusses the techniques used to rehabilitate a viaduct for modern use while respecting its historic character. The Lindbergh Viaduct, a 13-span, reinforced-concrete, open-spandrel arch bridge, was built in 1927 and dedicated as a memorial to Charles A. Lindbergh who completed his solo transatlantic flight that year. Analytical load ratings were calculated for several bridges at Boston Logan International Airport. These calculations determined that several members rated below the required capacity for legal load types and special airport vehicles. TranSystems performed load testing of selected representative bridge members to determine if the actual load rating capacity of these members was greater than that determined through the conventional analysis methods used in the load rating.
