Carload Express Selects TranSystems to Address Rail Improvements
TranSystems has been retained to provide engineering services for various improvements for three shortline railroads operated by Carload Express. Headquartered in Oakmont, Pa., Carload Express operates the Allegheny Valley Railroad, the Southwest Pennsylvania Railroad, and the Camp Chase Railroad (CCRA) which serves the Columbus, Ohio area. TranSystems will assist the Allegheny Valley Railroad with the reconfiguration of the Glenwood freight yard, recently leased from CSX, to enhance the efficiency of yard operations. The project will be implemented in three phases and involves new track layout and design. Engineering services for the Southwest Pennsylvania Railroad and the Camp Chase Railroad will include the design of rail sidings and various track, bridge and grade crossing improvements. In addition, TranSystems will interface with county economic development agencies and industries in the areas to address rail issues and needs of various shippers.
"The Warren office of TranSystems has provided engineering services to Carload Express and its railroads for many years. It is truly a pleasure to work with railroad professionals like Russ Peterson, Jim Streett and Sandy Perkins," said Harvey Stone, a Vice President at TranSystems.
The Allegheny Valley Railroad (AVR) operates 70 miles of track in the greater Pittsburgh, Pa. area, with lines extending from Pittsburgh to New Kensington, Washington, and Allison Park. AVR’s multiple connections to Norfolk Southern, CSX Transportation, Buffalo & Pittsburgh, and Wheeling & Lake Erie offer a wide variety of routing options for shipments, allowing local industries to maximize transportation.
The Southwest Pennsylvania Railroad operates 66 miles of track, running from Greensburg, Pa. through towns such as Youngwood, Scottdale, Connellsville and Uniontown to its southern terminus at Smithfield.
The Camp Chase Railroad operates over 14 miles of track in the Columbus, Ohio area serving a variety of industrial sites and customers ranging from paper products and ethanol receivers, to feed grain shippers.
