Sebastian Inlet Bridge Replacement

Sebastian Inlet Bridge Replacement

An inspection performed by the Florida Department of Transportation District 4 on November 14, 2018 identified the Sebastian Inlet Bridge, which carries State Road A1A over the Sebastian Inlet at the Indian River and Brevard County, as structurally deficient. They have also found it functionally deficient, as the bridge section and geometric alignments do not meet the latest road design standards or the needs of the corridor.
The replacement of the 1,548-foot-long Sebastian Inlet Bridge included the replacement of the mainline bridge and existing under-deck fishing piers, as well as the addition of shoulders and shared use paths.
The new bridge will provide two 12-foot travel lanes, two 8-foot shoulders, and two barrier-separated 12-foot shared use paths. This project will eliminate the gap in system linkage for bicyclists and pedestrians, as well as provide safety, environmental, stormwater, and roadway improvements.
