TranSystems prepared PS&E for the widening and reconstruction of approximately 1.56 miles of FM 1938 Phase II from FM 1709 (Southlake Blvd) to Randol Mill Ave. The project consisted of converting the existing 2-lane rural roadway with open ditch drainage into a 4-lane urban arterial with raised median, enclosed drainage, aesthetics, and pedestrian accommodations. Development of PS&E presented several challenges ranging from limited ROW available for the proposed improvements to extensive municipal and franchise utility conflicts. TranSystems’ design accommodated an 8’ sidewalk, retaining walls, side slopes, storm drain inlets to accommodate off-site drainage, and municipal and franchise utilities in the area between the back of curb and the ROW line.
