The Gateway program to upgrade Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor through New Jersey and New York has been described as one of the most urgent infrastructure programs in America. As one of several large-scale engineering efforts within the program, the Hudson Tunnel project will create a new connection between Manhattan and the Bergen Palisades in New Jersey. Working with Conrail, WATCO, and NJ Transit, TranSystems utilized the latest in aerial LiDAR technology to survey the existing conditions surrounding the future New Jersey tunnel portal. The existing conditions database will be used to design a new rail siding and material handling facility, allowing excavations from beneath the Hudson River to be taken offsite for disposal.
