CTA Red Line Extension FEIS/ROD

CTA Red Line Extension FEIS/ROD

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) proposed to extend the Red Line from the existing terminal at 95th/Dan Ryan (the current end of the line) south to 130th Street. The proposed 5.6-mile extension would include four new stations near 103rd Street, 111th Street, Michigan Avenue, and 130th Street opening important transportation options for an area underserved by transit. Multi-modal connections at each station would include bus, bike, pedestrian, and park & ride facilities. This extension will provide a 30-minute time savings by providing one-seat service, as opposed to the current bus-rail trip from 130th Street, a game changer for the residents of the far South Side of Chicago.

TranSystems is a major subconsultant to TY Lin on the Preliminary Engineering and FEIS/ROD development project. TranSystems prepared and received approval of two significant NEPA documents by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) – Supplemental EA and the Final EIS/Record of Decision (ROD). TranSystems also designed a new 330 railcar yard and maintenance shop, improved at-grade crossings on the adjacent and parallel UPRR, and participated in the structural design. TranSystems provided both procedural and technical support for meetings with FTA and other agencies (IDOT, CDOT, CCDOTH, FPCC, Chicago Park District), and public outreach for public meetings and hearings by preparing presentations, community guides, content materials, and exhibit boards.
