Fred Hartman Bridge Inspection

Fred Hartman Bridge Inspection

The Fred Hartman Bridge consists of twin, cable-stayed structures with shared pylons, which carry 8 lanes of Texas State Highway 146 over the Houston Ship Channel between Baytown and La Porte, Texas. The bridge consists of twin, 440-foot tall, M-shaped pylons and 192 stay cables supporting the deck. The structure is 10,490 feet long, with a main cable-stayed unit consisting of steel, two-girder, floor system with a 1250-foot main span and 482-foot back spans. The bridge was opened to traffic in September 1995.

TranSystems was tasked with performing a structural assessment of the bridge under TxDOT’s Bridge Maintenance and Improvement Program (BMIP), which consists of an in-depth inspection, followed by an assessment report which includes recommendations for structural rehabilitation. In addition, TranSystems performed a survey of the deck profile and pylon geometry.
