As the community grew, the two existing I-95 interchanges in Brevard County were reaching capacity. Therefore, a third interchange was needed at Viera Boulevard. A previously conducted PD&E determined that a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) provided the best operational design. TranSystems designed the DDI, which features new interchange ramps in all four quadrants. The project scope included roadway, drainage, traffic control, signing & pavement marking, signalization, lighting, ITS, structures, and landscaping, as well as survey, SUE, environmental, permitting, utility coordination, and geotechnical services. Public involvement was a major activity due to the local concerns of the adjacent area.
